Todd Fletcher made a beautiful case out of bleacher wood. I like how he mounted the auxiliary panel
at the base.
Todd is the first to offer builds of this project if you want one but can't or don't want to build one.
Todd wrote... "The case is from the old bleachers that most of my projects find themselves in. I used cloth covered wire for the patch cables. It gives a nice vintagie feel. I built this for someone else. I would have used just black knobs. But He liked yours and wanted the same. Maybe I'm too goth? I'd be willing to build more if anybody asks. "

Another Todd Fletcher build custom made for Charles Nelson.
Todd built another beautiful case and added two ULTIMATE EXPANDERS mounted as wings.
Charles emailed to let me know that he is very happy with this synth and with Todd's outstanding work.

Oskari Vuori of Finland writes: I just finished my first Sound-Lab Ultimate and it is really cool
synth. Building took maybe 40 hours to get finished, but in calendar
time it took almost six months.
Next project is the Expander for Ultimate or MFOS 16 Step Sequencer. I also have another Ultimate under construction :) I want to thank you for designing and creating these instruments and making them available from MFOS. In April this year I haven't got any experience in electronics or building anything (I've played synths about 20 years for hobby). In last spring I randomly surfed to MFOS web site and I immediately figured, I have to build these. I started with WSG kit and now first this Ultimate. Learning curve in DIY and electronics has been quite tight, but I've enjoyed reading books about synth electronics and theory. |

My name is Patrick Groulx, I'm from Montreal.
I've just finished my Ultimate and it works perfectly.
I'll admit I was very skeptical about my ability to have this synth running without any problems on the first power up but it did!!!
I have minimal knowledge of electronics but I took my time and it paid off.
Enclosure's been lightly stained in black with many, many coats of polyurethane.
The unit sounds great, I'll be using this in the studio for sure.
The ULTIMATE EXPANDER is next on Patrick's list. Stay tuned for more pics. |

Andrew Morelli sent me this excellent photo of his finished ULTIMATE project. He did a great job on his case as well.
Andrew wrote... "The enclosure is a modified breadbox that I picked up at the salvation army for $3. It's practically a perfect fit for the front panel. I sanded it and stained it. The backside is a piece of stainless steel that I plucked from the scrap yard. Again, no cutting of any kind, another perfect fit! I mounted the power jack there and added an on/off switch as you can see in the rear." |

Here are some nice shots taken during Andrew's build. He does a nice job keeping the wiring clean and neat. Please notice that he uses sockets. A very wise move. |

Chuck Stieg's Sound Lab ULTIMATE has a totally cool vintage look. Chuck was one of the first people to build an ULTIMATE. He sent me a "mission accomplished" email in June 2009. For more photos visit Chuck's Flickr site at: Chuck's ULTIMATE Photos |
